Israel should lift Gaza siege: Iran deputy FM

A senior Iranian official says the Israeli regime should raise the siege on the Gaza Strip as required by the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas.
“The Zionist regime has no other option but to accept the condition [set by] the [Palestinian] resistance [movement], which is lifting the siege on the Gaza Strip,” Iranian Deputy Foreign
Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in a meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil in Beirut on Saturday.
“The enemies know very well that in case of continuing their aggression, they will face more crushing responses,” added Amir-Abdollahian.
The Iranian diplomat travelled to Lebanon on Saturday to discuss the latest developments in the region, including Israel’s offensive in Gaza.
He also hailed Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry for following up on Israel’s brutal invasion of Gaza in international bodies.
Bassil, for his part, described the Israeli atrocities in Gaza as “crimes against humanity” and said the current offensive is similar to the 33-day war in Lebanon in 2006.
As the Lebanese nation gained a great victory in that war, the Palestinian resistance can emerge winner as a result of its steadfastness, Basil added.
In the 33-Day war in 2006, Hezbollah fighters defeated the Israeli forces and Tel Aviv was forced to retreat without achieving any of its objectives.
At least 985 Palestinians have been killed and more than 6,000 others wounded in 19 days of Israel’s aerial and ground attacks on Gaza.
The UN says over 80 percent of the Palestinian fatalities have been civilians, including more than 200 children.
