Nyako: EFCC grills Adawama ex-SSG, finance director

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Wednesday, quizzed the former Secretary to the Adamawa State Government, Mr. Kobeis Aris, and a Director in charge of Finance in the state Government House (names withheld).

It was learnt that the former SSG and the Director of Finance, Government House, were at the headquarters of the EFCC at Wuse 11, Abuja to respond to the commission’s invitation.
A source, who confided in our correspondent, said that Aris and the finance director arrived the EFCC headquarters by 11am and were still with the operatives by 1pm.
The EFCC had arrested the SSG, the commissioners for Finance and the Local Government in relation with the alleged looting of the state treasury by top officials of the government on June 20, 2014.
The state lawmakers had removed Governor Murtala Nyako from office and compelled his Deputy, Mr. Bala Ngilari, to resign from office as a result of the allegations of fraud against the duo and other top officials of the government.
A source at the EFCC said that some officials of the state government, who were not interrogated, when the SSG and other officials of the state government were quizzed in June, had been summoned to Abuja to face interrogation.
When our correspondent contacted the Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, he said that he was not aware of the presence of the two government officials at the commission’s headquarters.
Uwujaren said that he was aware of the fact that officials of the state government had been interrogated in relation with the alleged looting of the state’s fund in the past.
“I am aware that a number of officials were invited and questioned in the past. But I don’t have this information yet,” he said.
The commission had interrogated Ngilari for three hours in relation with the alleged fraud on Tuesday.
Uwujaren also said that the commission had concluded arrangement to declare Nyako wanted for his refusal to honour repeated invitationsof the commission.
