"The armed
militants opened fire at soldiers in the border town of Bonderi, located in
Cameroon's Far North region," local security forces said, Al-Jazeera
reported.
"A Cameroonian
soldier and a number of militants were wounded in the half-hour exchange of
gunfire. The militants reportedly fled back to Nigeria following the
cross-border raid," the forces added. It was the second
such strike by Boko Haram in the region over the past few days. On July 8,
militants attacked a border post in the town of Zina and took away vehicles,
guns and ammunition.
In May, Cameroon
declared war on Boko Haram in response to atrocities committed by the group.
Boko Haram has
claimed responsibility for a number of deadly gun and bomb attacks in various
parts of Nigeria since 2009.
In mid-April, the
group also abducted around 300 teenage schoolgirls from Chibok school in Borno
state.
Boko Haram - whose
name means "Western education is forbidden" - says its goal is to
overthrow the Nigerian government.
