A senior Iranian official has
censured as “unacceptable” the deadly attack by Nigerian forces on a
group of demonstrators taking part in the rallies held in support of the
Palestinian nation on International Quds Day.
Amir-Abdollahian
further said, “While Nigeria is struggling with certain Takfiri terrorist
groups, attacking the demonstrations on Quds Day aimed to oppose the Zionist
terrorism is questionable.”
Boko Haram Takfiri terrorist group has claimed
responsibility for a number of deadly gun and bomb attacks in various parts of
Nigeria since 2009.
The Iranian official further called on the Nigerian
government to shoulder its responsibility to identify and punish the
perpetrators of the attack.
Some 25 Nigerian demonstrators were gunned down by
security forces during an anti-Israeli rally held to mark International Quds
Day in the ancient city of Zaria in Nigeria’s Kaduna State on July 25.
Among those killed was 18-year-old Syed Mahmud Ibrahim
al-Zakzaky, a son of Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky, the leader of Nigeria’s Islamic
Movement, which had called for the rally.
Every year, many countries in the world observe International
Quds Day on the last Friday of the Muslim month of Ramadan by holding rallies
to voice solidarity with the Palestinian nation in the face of Israeli
occupation and atrocities.
So far, at least 1,364 people have been killed and thousands
others injured by the Israeli regime’s offensive against the coastal sliver
despite pressure from the international community. At least 7,680 others have
also been wounded.
The Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the
Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, has been launching retaliatory attacks
against Israel.
While Tel Aviv confirms 56 Israelis have been killed in the
war, Hamas sources put the number much higher.
