Nigeria Ranked 17 in Fragile State Index

The Foreign Policy magazine has ranked Nigeria as 17th most fragile state in its annual ranking of the world’s least stable countries, called the Fragile State Index
The ranking, based on 12 metrics, including the prevalence of refugees and displaced persons, access to public services, legitimacy of state and human rights, has placed Nigeria in 17th place.
“Nigeria suffers from uneven development of its economy, corruption, religious tension, Jihadist terrorism from Boko Haram, and a brutal and undisciplined security apparatus. More than 62 per cent of Nigeria’s population lives in extreme poverty,” BusinessInsider’s summary of the ranking said.
It also noted that it was quite surprising that North Korea – “one of the most closed-off and oppressive countries on earth” – managed not to make the top 25.
