The Lagos State Police Command yesterday said the suspect arrested in
connection with the death of a former member of the National Human Rights
Commission (NHRC) and a member of the Editorial Board of The Guardian
Newspapers, Olakunle Fadipe, was still recuperating in the hospital.
The
suspect had also stabbed the deceased’s son, Folarin and his mother-in-law
before he was apprehended and detained at Olowosokedile Police Station and
later transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti,
Yaba.
The state
police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the
suspect was still in the hospital responding to treatment after he was severely
injured by the local security operatives popularly called ‘OPC’ during his
attack on the lawyer.
She said:
“The suspect is still very ill, you know he was seriously wounded and we need
to give him time to recover a bit before interrogation.
“In few
days we will know whether it was purely an armed robbery case or if thee
was an other motive. For now he is still in a terrible state but that
does not mean that we are not doing investigation. We shall brief you about our
findings soon.”
