Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has
slammed the Israeli massacre of Palestinian children in the besieged Gaza Strip
as ‘genocide,’ saying the Tel Aviv regime is butchering ‘humanity’ in the
Palestinian enclave.
The Iranian president made the remarks in a message to a
Thursday gathering staged by a large group of Iranian children to show their
support for the kids in Gaza, which has been the scene of brutal Israeli raids
over the past month.
Rouhani further called on the Western states to support the
people around the world in their calls to stop the Israeli regime’s “huge genocide”
in the impoverished Gaza Strip.
“The world
knows that no logic could defend the killing of innocent and defenseless
children of Gaza,” said the Iranian president, stressing that the Israeli
carnage in the Palestinian sliver shows the regime’s failure in the face of
Palestinian resistance.
President Rouhani also criticized the Western states and
some international bodies for adopting double-standard policies in dealing with
the issue of human rights and remaining tight-lipped in the face of Israeli atrocities.
About 1,900 Palestinians, including more than 400 children,
have been killed and over 9,500 others wounded since the Israeli military first
launched its brutal military aggression against Gaza on July 8.
A three-day humanitarian ceasefire between the Palestinian
resistance movement Hamas and Israel took effect at 8:00 a.m. local time (0500
GMT) on Tuesday.
