An officer, who spoke with journalists in Maiduguri on condition of annoynimity, before a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information (DDI), Maj. Gen. Olukolade came in, said a surveillance jet was shot down by the insurgents around Bama, who are in control of over half of the state.
But Olukolade said the NAF helicopter crashed due to
technical fault at a location south of Bama.
He said: “One of the pilots of the crashed helicopter has been recovered alive while the second one as well as the technician on board the three-member crew flight died in the crash.”

Olukolade disclosed that investigation had already commenced
to unravel the circumstances that led to the accident.
He added that the crash was not as a result of any enemy
action.
The Defence spokesman also promised that further details on
the crash would be made known as investigation progresses.
