Police shoot dead five suspects in botched robbery in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya: Five suspected thugs were Thursday shot dead in two separate incidents and two pistols recovered from them after they had shot and injured a businessman in Nairobi.
Four of them had shot and injured a businessman as they wrestled to rob him Sh200,000 he was
carrying from a supermarket at the Syokimau Railway station before they were killed.
One of the pistols found on the four was later confirmed to belong to a policeman and it is not clear how it found itself in the hands of the criminals.
They shot the businessman as he stepped into his car and grabbed the cash he was carrying.  The gunshots however attracted the attention of police who were on patrol in the area.
Witnesses and police said the officers chased the gunmen for a while before they managed to gun them down at about 12.30 pm.
Nairobi Area deputy head of police Moses Ombati said a fifth suspect managed to escape. This was after they abandoned two motorbikes that they had and tried to escape on foot.
