Pandemonium As Soldiers Destroy BRT Buses, Beat Officials In Lagos



There was pandemonium in the early hours of Friday in Lagos as military men destroyed several bus-based mass transit system, popularly known as the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) over an alleged killing of a soldier by a BRT bus at the Palmgrove bus stop, Lagos.
When our reporter visited the scene, the street was empty of people and traffic was moving at a slow pace.

The soldiers who went on rampage destroyed BRT buses and beat up BRT workers.
Eye-witness who spoke with Daily Times said, "when it happened military men came en masse to destroy BRT buses. They beat up everyone who tried to capture them and that caused a gridlock."
Another resident who spoke with our reporter said, "The soldier was crossing the road at  Palmgrove bus stop when he was killed. After that, military men came in their numbers to protest the killing their colleague, they destroyed BRT buses, smashed the windscreens and set some ablaze."
Howevr, the incident resulted to traffic jam. Road from Maryland to Lagos Island enroute Ikorodu is blocked as cars and buses could not move.
The Palmgrove area of Lagos is known to be a busy area but a disturbed shop owner who identified herself as Mama Kike said, "we longer have safety in this Nigeria, if it is not Boko Haram, it is people taking the law into theor hands, we need help o. I have to start calling those I know to go through another route."
One of the eyewitnesses, Motunrayo said, "The soldiers are not taking things here. Every buses are on standstill. There is a lot of hold-up and many people cannot move."
Another resident said, "I learnt that a BRT bus killed a military person. So they came en mass to destroy BRT buses and all. Cars and buses cannot move and people have to start trekking."
