State government said it has spent about N154 million in training of youths in the state for its Youth Advancement and Development for Kogi (YAD4kogi).
The Special Adviser on Youths and Women Development Mrs. Temitope Shinkaiye stated this at
the closing ceremony of the batch seven of the yad4kogi volunteer held in Kabba, Kogi state.
Governor Idris Wada in company of his deputy Yomi Awoniyi arrived at the NYSC camp in Kabba, Governor Wada was first given a guard of honour, later he inspected the brigade, before a match past was conducted by some of the graduating students.
While giving his address, the state governor Capt. Wada enjoined the volunteers to make sacrifice and save enough from their monthly allowance to help them start businesses at the end of the one year program.
Gov. Wada who said all businesses started in a smaller will later enjoy when they become employer of labour which was one of the purpose of the scheme.
Speaking with pressmen at the venue the Special Adviser on Youths and Women Development Mrs. Temitope Shinkaye said a total numbers of 7,000 volunteers have been trained so far in the vocational and entrepreneurship arms of the scheme with each batch training gulping N22million.
On the achievement of the program to the state so far, Mrs. Shinkaye stated that aside providing employment, the program has aided in fostering unity in the state, and also rebuilt self-esteem in the youths and re-invent in them the dignity of labour, discipline as well as ethical and cultural values.
Games like thug of war were also played to entertain the guest by two different local governments and at the end trophy and gifts were given to deserving local governments who won.
Capt. Wada at the end told journalist that the program has been sustainable in every three months and fund meant for the program has been judiciously utilized, as the youth are more very interested in the program.
